About UK Money Explained
Our Mission
UK Money Explained exists to make personal finance accessible to everyone in the United Kingdom. We believe that understanding your money shouldn’t require a degree in economics.
Too many people make costly financial decisions — not because they’re careless, but because the information available is buried in jargon, complex regulations, and impenetrable small print. We’re here to change that.
What We Do
We publish clear, accurate explanations of UK finance topics including:
- Credit & Debt — How credit scores work, what affects them, and how to manage debt
- Loans & Borrowing — APR explained, types of loans, and how repayments work
- Mortgages — How to get on the property ladder, mortgage types, and affordability
- Taxes — Income tax bands, National Insurance, council tax, and stamp duty
- Household Bills — What average bills cost and how to reduce them
- Tools & Calculators — Free tools to help you work out costs and compare options
Our Approach
Every article on UK Money Explained follows the same principles:
- Plain English — No jargon. If we use a technical term, we explain it.
- UK-specific — All our content is written specifically for the UK market, using UK tax bands, UK regulations, and UK-specific services.
- Fact-checked — We reference official sources including gov.uk, the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the Bank of England, and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
- Regularly updated — Financial information changes. We review and update our content to ensure accuracy, particularly around tax year changes.
- No financial advice — We explain how things work. We do not tell you what to do with your money. For personal financial advice, always consult a qualified financial adviser.
